Mencap’s New Year Honours

I WOULD like to express the grateful thanks of Batley and District Mencap to all the organisations and individuals who have made donations to us over the past year.

HSBC (Cleckheaton), Yorkshire Building Society (Batley) and Dewsbury Ambulance Charity, St Peter’s Church Birstall, Cleckheaton Ladies’ Inner Wheel, St Paul’s Church Hanging Heaton and Dewsbury Mini Walk each made significant and very generous donations.

I would like to thank Mrs J Beattie (Batley), Fred Davies (Batley), Mary Garside (Heckmondwike), Paul Greenwood (Batley), Peter Harrop (Birstall), Mrs Shepley (Dewsbury) and Dudley Ward (Dewsbury) for their personal donations, together with donations in memory of Michael Kennedy (Cleckheaton), Connie Leybourne (Birkenshaw) and Douglas Stead (Huddersfield).

I would like to thank two other local people, Brenda Booth (Birkenshaw) for her efforts with our annual sponsored swim raising well over 30 per cent of the final total sponsorship and Peter Hopkins (Birstall) who recently completed major roof repairs at a very, very competitive price

We have just completed 60 years as a local charity and there is no doubt that without the generosity of local people and organisations we would not be looking forward to our 61st year.
