WHAT a fantastic story about CCTV covering Dewsbury town centre (Reporter, May 29). According to the story it's a fantastic tool, detecting criminal and anti social behaviour. What the story forgot to tell us is: That nobody seems to be operating it, or at least when vandals and thieves are operating in the town centre on a Friday night.
Remember last year when the flower tubs were upturned in front of the town hall? Not just once but several times. The culprits were not caught on camera they were facing the wrong way. On Saturday morning the mayhem had to be seen to be believed. S
cope charity shop was broken into (how low can these people sink?), the urn upturned and emptied outside Head Hunters and vomit and mess everywhere. In all these locations there are CCTV cameras. Perhaps the culprits have inside information or is it just a knack of knowing when the CCTV operators are having their tea break? It was only last week Val's cafe was broken into through the window opposite the town hall. Guess what? There are CCTV cameras there too.

Now for a happy story for anybody who likes music. Come to sunny Dewsbury you can hear music of every nationality all for free. You may not be able to shop in peace or sit and enjoy the company of your friends but you sure will want to leave town as soon as you can.

For goodness sake town centre managers and committee, don't rabbit on about the loss of quality shops in Dewsbury. What good are events such as Spirit or Flames and Fountains when you can't get the basics right? (A lot of people in town when the shops are shut!)

We heard about pedestrianisation over three years ago nothing about it since. We hear about getting tough with cars playing loud music, no progress there either.

I have lost count of the number of letters and years that issue of loud music has been going on. Traffic wardens and police turn a blind eye to illegal parking such as cars parked on pavements and kerbs, double parking or parked on bends causing buses and large vehicles to block roads. (The corner of Church Street and Westgate).

Address these issues and just maybe we will have a safe vibrant and thriving town centre once again.
