Fond memories of yesteryear

IT has been interesting reading the Dewsbury Reporter 150 year supplement.
Last week's front page of the supplement caught my eye, seeing the horse-drawn Hackney carriages in Dewsbury.
It made me wonder if my great grandfather Joe Mellor was standing there with his carriage. Joe was a well known driver of his day, driving
his father-in-law's carriage, Mr John Tipling of Mirfield. Joe was the last post boy of West Yorkshire on the mail carriages.
There are many stories of some notable passengers of the day, one being the actress Florrie Ford. He picked her up from the Dewsbury Empire when she came to stay in Upper Hopton, singing all the way.
It must be eye opening at times to look at the actual past newspaper archives of the Dewsbury Reporter news stories and the journalists and editors who wrote the items of news testifying to an unbroken past.
It is hoped that Johnston Press would publish a book on the history of the Dewsbury Reporter, 150 years of news stories and some of the interesting journalists and editors over the 150 years, as did the Yorkshire Post in 2004 on one of their notable anniversaries.
I'm sure many people would be interested subscribers in a copy for themselves and to send to family and friends in the UK and worldwide.
