I WOULD like to thank, via the Reporter, a few people who recently helped sort out a situation that was not only causing frustration to people around but which also could have caused a serious accident had it not been rectified.

I regularly go running out and about in Thornhill and had been very concerned about a large drain cover in the road near to the Savile Arms pub. The drain cover must not have been fastened properly as every time a car passed over the drain there was a huge bang. The first time I heard this noise was whilst I was running one morning and the noise was so loud I actually thought there had been some kind of accident.

I spoke to a few people who had also witnessed this and everyone expressed concern about how loud the noise was and that sooner or later an accident would likely happen.

I then spoke to a good friend of mine, Steve Leather, who I hoped could get me the telephone number of Paul Kane, a local councillor. I know that Steve is a very busy man and has a lot on at the moment, so I expected him to say leave it with me. However, Steve contacted Paul straight away.

The very next day after calling Steve I happened to be was chatting to a local plumber who told me he had been working at the Savile Arms and had seen someone come out and fix the manhole.

I was so touched with this act of generosity and it made me feel extremely proud of the community spirit we have in our area. I would like to personally thank everyone involved for getting this problem solved in such a quick manner.
