I WRITE regarding the nostalgia article in the Reporter about J&B's and other shops.

I remember Hodgsons, Wilkinsons – top of the arcade – Egglestons Curtain shop, J&B's and Bickers.
A lot of my furniture came from Bickers and all of my carpets – Mr Wainwright was the carpet sales man.
My late husband and me had a lot of help and advice from this gentleman. Also I remember Worfix toy shop, near Caddie's ice cream parlour.
Going to J&B's was like Are You Being Served on television. The manager/floor walker would say: "Are you being served?" and then call on somebody to serve you.
Money paid for goods would be put into a special container and somehow go to an accounts' department on an internal system.
Your correct change and receipt would come back in the special container. The container moved very fast on a wire, almost like a clockwork mouse, children loved to watch it.
