I WAS disappointed to see what I believed to be an unbalanced report about our MP Shahid Malik, and was most offended to see his photograph emblazoned across the front page in the manner of a criminal (Reporter, May 22).

Mr Malik has worked extremely hard for Dewsbury and brought about many benefits, which seems to have gone unnoticed by your newspaper.

I run a voluntary charity and have always found Mr Malik to be extremely helpful and supportive.

With regard to the rent he pays on his home, the house is in Dewsbury Moor, next to a chemical factory and opposite a sewerage works. One would hardly expect such a property to require high rent.

It seems to me that Mr Malik is damned if he does pay a low rent, and would be damned if he paid a high one. This argument should never have been raised.

It would be Dewsbury's loss if we were to lose such a good MP who has worked very hard for us.
