Now fight for Thornhill
WELL done Mr Malik you've done it again and spoken up for the people of Savile Town and saved their post office from closure, and at what expense?
Thornhill Edge post office will close instead .Thank you. 'What's the difference?' I hear you ask. Well I will tell you. Savile Town is a short walk on the flat into Dewsbury or a bus ride. Thornhill's nearest post office is a long walk all uphill to Edge Top Post Office and there aren't any buses that go all the way up to the top.
Furthermore if you care to look down Valley Drive from the post office you will notice bungalows left and right as far as the eye can see. These pensioners should not and maybe could not walk the distance to the Edge Top post office.
Once again thank you Mr Malik for the work you do for the people of Thornhill!

THORNHILL
HOW dare Shahid Malik get the post office bosses to bow to pressure from Savile Town to keep that post office open at the expense of Thornhill Edge? (Saved - but 61 Brances Axed, Reporter, July 18).This really does make a mockery of it all.
At least Coun Khizar Iqbal (Con, Dewsbury) speaks the truth, he admits he did campaign for Savile Town but not at the expense of Thornhill Edge. One more think I would like to say Mr Malik, you say they can't speak the language, then all I can say is it's time they learned.
My husband is Polish born. He came to this country after the war from a labour camp in Germany in 1947. The first thing he did was learn to speak English.
These people in Savile Town only live one mile from Dewsbury. The people in Thornhill Edge live at least three miles. And you may not believe it Mr Malik, they do have old and infirm people also in Thornhill. They don't all live in Savile Town.

As reported in last week's Reporter Post Office Ltd made the decision not to shut Savile Town Post Office but proposed closing Thornhill Edge. This was not a suggestion made either by Shahid Malik MP or any other campaigners working to keep the post office open. A six-week period of local public consultation will now be held on the future of Thornhill Edge - Editor
