I live in the Dewsbury Moor area and as such have watched as the whole Shannon dissappearance unfolded.
In fact, our home was one of those searched by the police during their door-to-door enquiries.
The police came in for some strong criticism after Shannon was found. During the past week or so, it has become clear that all was not as it seemed. I hop
e that those same people feel the need to take back their harsh words.
During this time the national press have covered the story and the locale has been beamed around the country.
I have family and friends elsewhere in the country, and they now know of Dewsbury for two things – the first is that Dewsbury was the home of one of the 7/7 bombers, and the second is the Shannon Matthews case.
I have lived in Dewsbury for just eight years, having settled with a local lass, and consider Dewsbury to be my home.
I just wish that we could portray a more positive and wholesome image.
I am sick of seeing Dewsbury on the national news and having to explain to people who don't know that it's not that bad a place.
Unfortunately they just assume it is a place where extremism is fostered, and the locals all live their lives inspired by Shameless or some other Chav-filled drama.
I am sick to the back teeth of saying to people: "I live in Dewsbury Moor, but not the rough part..."
Let's get Dewsbury on the map for the right reasons......
