I READ with great interest the letter in the Reporter on June 20 regarding market lights.
This must be Kirklees' biggest continuing carbon footprint. It was well over a year ago that I began noticing this extremely well-illuminated DESERTED area.

It could have been, of course, a market employee who'd gone home and forgotten to switch the lights off. However, after seeing the situation for week after week and thinking that the markets' HQ in Kirkl
ees were not aware of this waste, I decided to telephone them.

The department told me that they were aware of the lights being left on, but they were on a timer switch. I suggested that the timer switch be adjusted to allow for the difference in summer light and then changed to accommodate the shorter winter days.

They said that they would "look into it"!

They obviously haven't done anything at all.
