Masons restoring Dewsbury landmark Pioneer House

CRUMBLING stonework in one of Dewsbury’s most prominent landmarks is being restored.

A team from Lancashire-based stone masons Stone Edge has been making repairs to Pioneer House since August.

The work is part of a council-led scheme to restore the Grade II listed building and bring it back into use.

Stephen Boardman, of Stone Edge, said: “Having worked on the prestigious building for the past eight weeks, we are well on the way with the conservation and restoration works.

“Locally sourced Crosland Hill stone, quarried from nearby Huddersfield, has now been delivered to the site and is in the process of being installed to bring back Pioneer House to its former glory.”

The scaffolding around the building should come down next month when it is expected to be fully weatherproofed.
