A PROJECT which works to keep young people off the streets has been give a cash boost.
The Matrix project, run by Churches Together in Mirfield, has been given £11,947 by Mirfield area committee to pay for an experienced youth worker to lead the project for another year.

The Rev Wendy Dalrymple, who works with the group, said: "The project is about working with young people who hang about in public places. We provide a drop-in in the town centre where young people can come and sit inside. Big support comes from volunteers through the church community.

"We got initial funding for a youth worker, and now we want to extend the project for another year to provide sustainability."

Over the past year the youth worker and Matrix volunteers have run a cookery project with teenagers from London Park and Lockwood estates, worked with youth workers in the London Park estate, and are setting up a scheme working with vulnerable school pupils.

Since April 2008 Matrix has worked with more than 80 young people.
