And The Rev Canon Craig-Wilde hopes to turn around the fortunes of his new church, which has one of the lowest attendance rates in Europe.
Peter, who has been the vicar of Mirfield for 12 years, is to move to Maltby, in the Diocese of Sheffield, with his wife, the Rev Dhoe Craig-Wilde, a priest of Roberttown and Hartshead.
Peter said he was looking forward to the new challenge, but that he was also sad to be leaving friends in Mirfield.
He said: "I'm excited because I will be working with my wife, but you are always sad to leave behind friends and people you have known for a while."
The couple has worked together in Sheffield before, but moved to Kirklees 12 years ago when Peter started working in Mirfield.
Peter, 53, said his new job would be very different from working in Mirfield.
He said: "It's a completely different kind of place and I am really looking forward to it.
"It is an old mining village and there is still a working pit there – I think it is the last one in Yorkshire. Maltby is slightly bigger than Mirfield but the church has probably the lowest attendance in Europe.
"But I am excited about it – it's a new challenge."
Mirfield parish includes St Paul's, St Mary's and St John's churches, and Peter is also the Canon of Wakefield Cathedral.
The couple plan to move in late September.
