THIS year could be the last for Mirfield Show unless more people come forward to help.
Organisers say their ageing committee is struggling to put on the show every year. Unless new people volunteer the show, now in its 15th year, it may have to end.

Committee member Richard Hartley said: "If things don't change by this time next year then the 2011 show will be in very serious danger. That's why we are trying to get things changed now.

"This year will definitely happen but it's going to be hard on the few people that put it on. We are very nervous at the moment and a little bit scared. We don't know where to turn."

Mr Hartley said help was needed in all areas, from booking attractions and filling in paperwork to managing the show on the day.

He said: "All the attractions have to be booked and there is all the legwork to do. We have to book everything from animals, stalls, tables, chairs and marquees. Whatever you see at the show, someone has had to fill in paperwork to get it."

And he said the committee was especially interested in getting younger people on board to bring fresh ideas to the show. The show takes place on August 22. A meeting for people interested in helping out is being held on Wednesday March 10 at 7pm, at Old Bank Club, Old Bank Road, Mirfield.
