PUPILS from Westborough High School have been learning about cultural diversity.
Topics covered included looking at British culture, understanding diversity and personal development. The group of eight, who attended weekly workshops, also visited a Jewish Museum in Manchester, had a residential weekend at Herd Farm in Leeds and completed a six week radio project at Beaumont Street Studios in Huddersfield.
Last month they secured an £800 bid from the Youth Opportunity Fund to pay for a summer programme to celebrate being British.
Theresa Dyson, area team leader for Dewsbury and Mirfield Young People's Service, said the group had enjoyed the programme and their confidence had grown immensely.
Youth worker for Dewsbury and Mirfield Ifty Ahmed said it had been a great pleasure working with young people who had put 100 per cent in to the project.
He added: "They are an asset to their school and a positive role model for other young people."
Shaz Hussain, also a youth worker and learning mentor at Westborough High School, said: "I have seen visible changes such as more confidence and they are not afraid to give their opinions on issues."
