NOISY types who can talk up the town are wanted to enter the Mirfield Town Crier competition.
The event is to be held at Mirfield Show and anyone can enter.

Organiser Coun David Pinder said: "We have a decibel machine to measure the volume of their voices.

"Entrants will be asked to read out a prepared text on Mirfield but then they will be asked to read out a verse that they have composed themselves telling people about Mirfield.

"People at the show and the decibel meter will decide who is to be the town crier.

"It will be for three years and the stipend is a free uniform and a firkin of ale at Christmas."

Mirfield Show takes place all day on August 11, Huddersfield Road.
