YOUNG people are being given the chance to spread their wings when their activities group expands to new premises.
Ambitions4Kirklees, which supports young people with learning difficulties, is expanding to new premises in Heckmondwike to cope with extra demand for the service.

Bev Sissons, who runs the group with colleague Liz Feeny, said: "It's a really rustic building. It was a bit of a mess but Liz's husband Mark has spent a lot of time doing it up. It's getting to the stage where we can go and use the space, and we will be able to do bigger projects there like exercise classes and keep fit.

"There are a lot of things we can do from there. It's next to the Spen Valley Greenway and the young people can do some bike maintenance and then go out on to the Greenway."

The new premises, in Walkley Lane, are expected to be ready next month.

Bev said: "Once it's up and running, everybody will be starting from here then we will take a group to Heckmondwike, a group to the gardens at Northorpe Hall and a group will stay in Mirfield. There is the possibility of another group going out and about.

"The new premises will give us the space to do different things."

Meanwhile, Ambitions has started up a new mini business decorating mugs with artist Abbie Williams.

Bev said: "We're making mugs, jewellery and cards, horticulture, and doing photography. "The mug business is called Cheeky Mugs, the cards and jewellery is called Chicken And Egg and the horticulture is called Plot To Plate."
