PUPILS and staff at a Mirfield school are celebrating after receiving an outstanding Ofsted report.
Mirfield Free Grammar was given the top grading after it was inspected by the independent schools' watchdog.
In its report, Ofsted concluded the school and sixth form was 'an outstanding school where students flourish and achieve well'.
The rep
ort stated 'students working at all levels make very good progress while at the school. The school is outstanding in promoting and ensuring students' personal development and well-being.
'The students' social, moral, spiritual and cultural development is excellent. The school's policy on racial equality is used to promote harmony and the log of racial incidents indicates that such issues are managed effectively. Overall, students at the Mirfield Free Grammar show exemplary behaviour, both in their classrooms and around the school.'
In a letter to pupils, inspector Linden Phillips said Ofsted had asked the school to make improvements in English, the choice of sixth form courses and to aim to make more lessons outstanding.
He added: "You can play your part by continuing to work with teachers and staff so that you all achieve of your best."
Headteacher Lorraine Barker said: "We are delighted with the judgement knowing it reflects the professionalism, positive attitudes and aspirations of the whole school. We know this does not mean we are perfect but it is a great milestone for our school and will help us to achieve an even greater future."
