MIRFIELD Free Grammar chiefs have slammed the shake-up plans and urged parents to fight them.
Principal Lorraine Barker and chair of governors Jennifer Ryan sent out a letter to parents which said: "The principal and governors have major concerns with the proposals and need to know your views before we decide our response and plan of action.
"We want to put our children first. We do not believe that these proposals achieve this."
Their concerns include:

The impact of the reorganisation 'that could blight the future of many children';

The removal of parental choice in Mirfield, Dewsbury, Ravensthorpe, Batley, Heckmondwike and Liversedge;

A student increase of 30 percent;

The impact on roads and the community as a result of the growing school;

The disruption of pupils' education with building work;

The loss of control over the school's sixth form;

The disruption for both Mirfield Free Grammar and Castle Hall pupils until Castle Hall closes.

The letter ends: "These are proposals only at this stage. We have six weeks to determine the future provision of education of our children. Please act now."
Mrs Barker told the Reporter yesterday: "I am going to listen to what parents have to say. I will put together an action plan and proceed on that basis."
Meanwhile Castle Hall governors also voiced fears over the plans, saying they were "deeply disappointed" at the proposal to close the school in 2013.
They said that after talks with staff and parents they would be objecting in a "strong but dignified and positive manner".
They said: "We are a successful and popular school which each year is greatly over subscribed.
"Parents have wanted their children to come to this school. Our reward for success and popularity appears to be proposed closure."
