ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour and drug dealing are some of the biggest concerns for people in Dewsbury and Mirfield.
At meetings in Dewsbury Town Hall and the Salvation Army Hall in Mirfield the issues came out as the top priorities for police as they prepare to produce their three-year policing plan.
Welcoming members of the public and councillors to Monday's m
eeting in Dewsbury, Chief Insp Barry South said: "The crucial issue for us is we get a lot of targets but what we want to do is really get down into what affects you on a constant daily basis. We've got to tackle burglary, robbery, gun crime and drugs – but what are the other things?"
Dewsbury neighbourhood policing team's Insp Ian Gayles gave an overview of the issues his officers were currently addressing before the discussions about people's concerns began.
He said: "Overall crime for this locality is down. We currently stand at 404 fewer offences. Criminal damage is down and violent crime is down. We've had some issues of burglary and theft of vehicles, an issue across Kirklees, so we've been looking hard at combating that."
He said the team was also working on issues around underage drinking and the anti-social behaviour and criminal damage as a result.
The targets set for Dewsbury were:TACKLING anti-social behaviour
TACKLING drugs by targeting street dealers and properties associated with drugs
IMPROVING links with tenants' and residents' associations and neighbourhood watches
Targets set by people from Mirfield at a meeting last Wednesday were:TACKLING anti-social behaviour including underage drinking and drug taking.
TACKLING anti-social use of cars by 'boy racers'.
TARGETING people who use mobile phones while driving.
The policing plans for Dewsbury and Mirfield will be published in April.
