THE biggest shake-up of education ever in North Kirklees has been announced this week.
But the £200m proposals from Kirklees Council have been slammed by councillors.

The plans would see:

Castle Hall School in Mirfield close and its pupils moved to Mirfield Free Grammar;

The transfer of all Dewsbury's sixth form students to either Mirfield or Heckmondwike;

Westborough High School and Birkdale High School close;

A new academy to replace both schools built at Westborough;

Earlsheaton Technology College expanded;

Thornhill Community Science College expanded;

The possible closure of the sixth form at St John Fisher.

Staggered, lets close a great performing School (Castle Hall) so the bright kids can be mixed into under performing schools who have lots of kids on free school meals (Labour PC brigade but this is a Tory decision- even worse), Better still use the future of our kids in the do goody schemes that they can think up. Or once again is it about supporting the ethnic minorities vs. the average hard working normal resident & the majority. My demographic is the most discriminated against (white middle class home owner). The worst areas performance has been Birkdale - so let reward this underperformance with a new state of art academy. Mirfield where parents of all backgrounds want to send their kids due to great results & will make financial decisions to move closer so our kids have a better future. I for one will be joining this debate with a very vocal position. Why has the Council only allowed a 6-week period of consultation with the residents who pay their damned wages? It’s about time local councils do the job of serving because KMC if this gets the green light is a disgrace. From a voter who supported Mr Lights party as the reds and libs are nothing but PC supporters. If this happens then its extra tuition and hopefully Heckmondwike or even consider private to avoid the nanny state totally for my little one
