A BMX bike track, skate park and aerial runway is on the on the way for Mirfield kids in a £80,000 spending package.
Mirfield area committee has agreed to fund a string of leisure facilities after it emerged that people are not happy with what is on offer for 12- to 16-year-olds.

Members of the committee have already said they want to improve facilities and now
the price tags have been identified, although £50,000 has already been approved for the skate park.

The skate park, BMX track and runway would be at Knowle Park because of its expanse of open space and central location.

At present, the park has a play area and a floodlit multi use games area is being created.

A report to Monday's meeting of the committee said: "The outcome of this is that Mirfield would have better youth provision.

"The new facilities will encourage healthy activities for young people. It has been shown that providing suitable facilities encourages constructive and appropriate behaviour."

The committee will spend £40,000 on the runway and BMX track with more money allocated for the skate park.

Work on the BMX and aerial slide could start this financial year and the skate park in the next.

Planning permission will be needed for this part of the project.
