MARLON Williams is hoping to have success sewn up at a new menswear and bespoke tailors shop in Dewsbury.

The new store has opened in the former premises of an import business in Nelson Street which have been completely refurbished after standing empty.

The shop, 13 Nelson Street, is open, but will have an official opening at the end of September.

Mr Williams, the 43-year-old shop manager, said: “This is a vote of confidence in Dewsbury. We hope it will appeal to people in the town who are looking for quality menswear at an affordable price but also that people will travel to shop from Leeds or Manchester when they are looking for something a bit different.”

With 23 years of working in the fashion and textile business behind him, Mr Williams hopes to pass on his passion for fashion and his enthusiasm for quality clothing.

“Dewsbury was a textile town and I believe that people here are prepared to pay that more bit for quality clothes that will last.”

Mr Williams, who worked in Harvey Nichols in Leeds, said Dewsbury tradesmen were used in the shop’s refurbishment.

“The shop is a bit off the beaten track but we have tried to make the shop look distinctive and fit in with the surrounding buildings. The door, for example, is painted the same blue as the lamp-posts in the town. We have been meticulous about fitting out the shop and are meticulous about choosing the stock.”

The tailoring side of the business will soon be up and running, offering bespoke suits, shirts and even casual clothing.

“This business is going to be for our customers. We want people to feel welcome to come in and have a browse round. We will stay open late for them and we will deliver to them.

“There is a lot of uncertainty in the retail sector but we feel confident in what we are doing and wherever possible we will be supporting British textile manufacturers,” said Mr Williams.
