Bank workers swapped counters for garden beds when they took part in a Give and Gain Day at Hollybank Trust.

A group of 40 bank workers from Lloyds spent the day sprucing up the gardens at Hollybank at Roe Head in Mirfield.

Give and Gain Day is the UK’s only national day of employee volunteering when people donate their time to the communities they live or work in. One of its main sponsors is the Lloyds Banking Group.

The volunteers got stuck into a variety of planting and gardening activities including planting summer bulbs donated by Marks and Spencer, digging and weeding.

Hollybank Trust, which cares for, educates and supports children and adults with profound and complex disabilities, has 23 acres of grounds including a sensory play area, Victorian walled garden, themed gardens, lawns, vegetable beds and polytunnel.

Corporate/partnerships fundraiser Suzanne Barton said: “We are indebted to the kindness of volunteers such as these teams from Lloyds who give up their time gracefully to get stuck into gardening tasks here at Hollybank.

“We are delighted to be able to help them fulfil their corporate responsibility commitments. Our residents and schoolchildren enjoy being in our grounds and it’s wonderful that with help from volunteers we can keep them looking their best.”
