A CRICKET club is appealing for supporters to help with the building blocks of its new clubhouse.

Upper Hopton Cricket Club has been awarded £30,000 by Kirklees Council to extend and refurbish its clubhouse in Jackroyd Lane, but the club must raise a further £15,000 itself to cover costs.

It has set up the Buy a Brick scheme to encourage people and businesses to pay for a brick for the building.

Commercial secretary Tracey Thompson said: “We are inundated with young children at the moment and for the past couple of years we haven’t been able to meet the demand. We have 75 juniors and 40 adult members.”

The club wants to extend its clubhouse, remodel the changing rooms and install toilets and showers.

Ms Thompson said: “We have applied for charity grants but it can take time. We are desperately fundraising so we don’t lose the money.”

Bricks are £50 or £25. and will be engraved with the donator’s name.
