Bonfire Night proved a chilly occasion for one Birstall company, as staff jointly endured an ice bucket challenge.

Employees at Crossroads Bus and Truck Limited, in Pheasant Drive, decided to undergo the popular feat in aid of the Stroke Association.

Manager Richard Wilkinson inspired fellow staff at the company to help raise money for the charity after it was chosen by long-serving colleague Julie McArdle, 43.

She suffered a stroke two years ago after 12 years with the company.

Julie was unable to continue work after becoming hemiplegic, meaning she was paralysed down her left side.

Mr Wilkinson said: “We decided to put on a challenge with a different twist and to wait until when temperatures had dropped to raise money for Julie.”

The team fetched £1,500 in donations on the day, and contributions are still coming in.

The company have pledged to match, pound-for-pound, all money raised using their Charitable Trust Programme.

With this, the charity should receive more than £3,000.

The fundraiser had originally been planned for August, but had to be abandoned and the crew re-arranged.
