Capital start to 2016-17 season for Leeds United

Leeds United have been handed an away start to the new Championship season as they open the 2016-17 campaign in London against Queens Park Rangers.

Garry Monk’s first game in charge will take place against a side managed by United old boy Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at Loftus Road on Sunday, August 7, with the game kicking off at noon and televised live on Sky.

Leeds’ first home game is set to take place the following Saturday when they take on Birmingham City on August 13.

United are then at home again to Fulham on Tuesday, August 16 with away trips to Sheffield Wednesday (August 20) and Nottingham Forest (August 27) to follow in the first month.

Leeds finish the season away at Wigan Athletic on Sunday, May 7 while their Boxing Day game is away to Preston. They take on relegated Aston Villa away on New Year’s Eve and face Rotherham United in a Yorkshire derby at Elland Road on January 2.
