A school in Mirfield has been given permission to build an extention, just five years after it was kept open at the eleventh-hour.
An application to build a new two-storey science block at Castle Hall Academy in Richard Thorpe Avenue was granted Kirklees Council.
The application describes the proposal as: “A new science block to the east of the main school buildings, to provide teaching space appropriate to the modern curriculum, enabling the remodelling of the existing science rooms to create additional teaching space.”
The school was saved in early 2010 after council proposals to close it. A parents’ campaign group was set-up, called Retain Education At Castle Hall (REACH), and with backing from pupils, teachers, governors and councillors, the schools adjudicator Canon Richard Lindley overturned Kirklees Council’s plans to axe the school.
