Masked men armed with a crowbar burst into two flats in Dewsbury town centre, demanding cash and drugs from the families inside.

The trio forced open the door to a flat in Croft Street on Monday evening at around 7.45pm and began threatening the couple living there.

The male tenant, who was too frightened to be named, said: “We were just sitting watching Eastenders. There was a sound at the door and it went through.

“There were six men there with balaclavas and they were asking for money and weed – I don’t even smoke that stuff.

“They had a look round then did the flat next door. She’s a pregnant lady.

“I think it’s a case of mistaken identity.”

Nobody was hurt, but the man said they were stunned by what had happened.

He said: “They threatened us and said ‘Don’t ring the police or we’ll shoot you.

“It took us half an hour to come to our senses.”

Police said the men drove off in a white transit van towards Daisy Hill.

They are appealing for witnesses who saw the van in the Wellington Road East car park at around 7.45pm or driving through the town shortly afterwards.

Officers have also issued descriptions of three men.

The first was white, in his 40s, 5ft 9ins tall and stocky. He had his face covered.
The second was Asian, 5ft 5ins to 5ft 6ins tall and aged 35 to 40 with short or shaved hair.

The third was in his 20s, 5ft 2ins tall and fat.
