An 82-year-old woman was targeted by a robber in Mirfield yesterday (Tuesday).

The pensioner was walking in Wellhouse Lane between 2pm and 2.10pm when a robber came up from behind and tried to steal her bag.

She shouted at the robber, who then ran away.

It is thought the would-be robber fled down a ginnel at the side of Mirfield Towngate Cricket Club.

They were described as being around 5ft 5ins tall and wore dark clothing and a hoodie.

It is not known whether they were male or female.

PC Nicole Rubio-Senior, of Kirklees Robbery Team, said: “Thankfully this individual left empty-handed but they have targeted an elderly member of our community and we are keen to identify them.

“Anyone who witnessed this incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of this offence is asked to call Kirklees Robbery Team on 101.”
