‘Dramatic’ fire put out in minutes

A fire took place in Dewsbury yesterday afternoon that caused plumes of smoke to be seen all over the town.

The fire took place in Wesley Place just after 4pm yesterday, with a crew attending from Dewsbury Fire Station shortly afterwards.

Eyewitness Ash Milnes, who also took these pictures, said: “The fire was quite large and dramatic.

“Thick black smoke could be seen all over the town – it was also encroaching on a derelict building and spreading up the wall towards the railway line, trains were reducing speed due to the visibility. Another 10 minutes and there may have been a very serious situation.”

The fire service arrived at the incident at 4.30pm, leaving the scene 10 minutes later. They said it was a controlled burning that got out of hand.
