With just a few days to go, the final preparations are being made for the event which will run alongside the 13th Yorkshire Sweet Pea Championships.

The event takes place on July 2 and St Paul’s Church in Newgate will be filled with more than 100 vases of sweet peas as well as craft stalls and a sweet pea advice stand, 10.30am-4pm.

Meanwhile, Mirfield shops are being invited to enter a best decorated window class.

Organisers hope the festival and window competition would draw visitors into the town centre and boost trade.

GROWERS are busy tending to their potential prize-winners as Mirfield’s first sweet pea festival draws near.
