Mirfield Library has been saved for at least 12 months – but a campaign to protect it is far from over.
Following publication of its budget report Kirklees Council’s party leaders said libraries would not be cut this year.
But library campaigner Roger Johnson said people should not be lulled into a false sense of security, adding that the fight was far from over.
He said: “When you look at the figures you see that the funding drops by £600,000 this year, they are taking a huge amount of the library budget. It’s going to have an impact but we don’t know what.
“The campaign is by no means finished. Everybody needs to be vigilant.
“Keep taking books out, we need to keep figures up.”
