HEAD FOR HEIGHTS: Fundraiser Gayle Taylor, 49, is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the British Skin Foundation.

A dermatologist from Dewsbury and District Hospital is aiming high for charity.

Gayle Taylor, 49, is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of the British Skin Foundation and is one of 26 trekkers on the journey.

Gayle has already raised £1,800 and is hoping the climb will help her reach her target of £3,500.

She said: “I wanted to raise money for the BSF because it is a small charity of just five people who do some really important work to raise funds for skin disease research.”

During the trek, which began on Friday, Gayle, from Roundhay, will walk up to 17 hours a day and climb to an altitude of 5,895 metres above sea level.

She said: “Most friends have been impressed by the fact that I am doing the walk, though my children are a bit worried for me. I am looking forward to it but I am worried about developing altitude sickness so hopefully that won’t happen!”
