Getting fitted up for a new career
TRAINING DAY: Jordan Evans with designer Dan Francis.
A KITCHEN firm is offering made-to-measure support for young people looking for work.
Rixonway Kitchens wants to help tackle youth unemployment by offering young people an opportunity to gain insight and experience in all areas of its business.
The Dewsbury-based firm wants to help young people at the social housing homes where it fits kitchens.
The first tenant to take part was Jordan Evans, 17, from Newcastle Under-Lyme who spent a day shadowing Rixonway designer Dan Francis.
Mr Francis said: “I ran the day in the same way I would if I were training a new recruit going through the process and showing Jordan how a CAD design is produced before letting him complete CAD designs himself.
“Jordan was great, he took my instruction very well and by the third house he was completing designs with little instruction from me.”
Jordan added: “I would be very interested in a role in design and hope that the day might be a stepping stone to a permanent position.”
