He’s probably not what you’d imagine when you think of Mirfield Mothers’ Union, but Brian Hardwick is as dedicated to the group as anyone.

Earlier this month, Mr Hardwick became the first man to join the organisation’s Mirfield branch in its history. It’s certainly a break from tradition, but Mr Hardwick says it’s not that different from what he was doing anyway.

He said: “For ages my wife Barbara has held various offices in Mothers’ Union and I got dragged in to help every time there was a meeting. I had to move the furniture and set up the sound system so I thought, if I’m being dragged along anyway, I might as well become a member.”
