A stalwart of the Batley community has been honoured with the renaming of a play area loved by the area’s children.

The play area on Beaumont Street has been renamed the George Speight Memorial Park, after the former Batley councillor who always had time for everyone.

Mr Speight devoted 32 years of his life to public service in the town, serving on Batley and Kirklees councils. He died last year.
