A plaque has been unveiled in memory of fallen heroes including Dewsbury-born Cpl Jake Hartley.

A service was held at Golcar Royal British Legion Club in honour of the six servicemen and women from the Huddersfield area who have died in Afghanistan.

Their names were inscribed on a plaque which was unveiled by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Tim Hare, on Sunday. Cpl Hartley, who grew up in Earlsheaton and moved to New Mill, Huddersfield, just before he finished his studies at Earlsheaton Technology College, died in a bomb blast in March last year.

Royal British Legion county president Robert Mortimer, pictured with branch president Charles Landon ,said around 400 people attended Sunday’s service in which Pte Anton Frampton, Pte Daniel Wilford, Cpl Graham Shaw, Capt Lisa Jade Head and Pte Tom Wroe were also recognised for making the ultimate sacrifice.
