Princess visits Mirfield marina

Mirfield got the royal treatment, as Princess Anne visited one of Yorkshire’s best-loved marinas.

The Princess Royal visited the Shepley Bridge Marina, off Huddersfield Road, to unveil two new plaques for the Safe Anchor Trust.

More than 200 people turned out to greet the Royal, who has visited the trust twice before, as she was shown round the site, taking in a presentation, and inspecting the newly refurbished E.Austen Johnson boat.

Austen Johnson, who has been active in the trust for more than 30 years and had the boat named after him, commended the Princess on her personable nature.

He said: “She was absolutely charming – she puts everyone at ease and you couldn’t ask for anything better than that.”
