Share your memories of Batley Frontier/Variety Club nights

It's the final countdown until the closure of Batley's most famous nightspot.

The Frontier nightclub - formerly Batley Variety Club - shuts its doors for the last time after a farewell party on Saturday July 30.

In its heyday, the club hosted world-famous acts such as Shirley Bassey and the Bee Gees, and was an essential port of call for generations of Kirklees revellers, with many coming from further afield.

At its height, the Variety Club could hold 1,600 people and was said to have 300,000 members. It closed in 1978, re-opening as the short-lived Crumpet club.

Its luxury fittings included carpets, velvet benches and seating pods, while food was served - often chicken in a basket.

Tina Turner, Tom Jones, Roy Orbison, Louis Armstong, Olivia Newton-John, Morecambe and Wise, Dusty Springfield and Ken Dodd also graced its stage during the 1960s and 70s.

As the ‘Final Frontier’ event approaches, we want your memories of nights out at the venue. Did you meet your husband or wife there? Were you in the audience when the big stars played? Do you have photos of you and your friends partying there?
