The end of an era for fire service command

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s command centre will move from Kirklees this summer after 40 years based in the area.

The fire service’s Brigade Control originally came to its Birkenshaw headquarters in 1974, and the move is to help modernise the service.

Project Director, Deputy Chief Fire Officer Steve Beckley said: “The new command and control centre in Leeds is a major step forward and has been designed to house the very latest in emergency control centre technology.
