Traffic in Cleckheaton has been brought to a standstill since the closure of a rat-run just before Christmas.

The Guardian has been flooded with complaints from local residents and businesses, claiming the town’s traffic problems have now reached chronic levels.

Many complain of being stuck in traffic for up to half an hour in Bradford Road, Westgate and St Peg Lane since bollards were placed in Pyenot Hall Road in December.

There are fears that the problems may get even worse if plans to build 300 homes in Lower Blacup get the go-ahead.

But others have defended the road closure, claiming it will help keep families living nearby safe.
