More than 60 jobs ranging from nursing posts to admin staff are being created at Dewsbury’s newest privately owned luxury care home, which is set to open in spring 2016.

The £4m Oak Park Care Home is being built on the site of a former care home and council offices at the junction of Ossett Lane and Walnut Lane in Chickenley and will offer 66 places to people needing residential, nursing or specialist dementia care.

This is the third in a series of Yorkshire care homes built by Eric Dixon of Darrington Healthcare, which also owns Willow Park care home in Pontefract and Elm Park Care Home in Doncaster. Oak Park’s facilities will include larger than average en-suite bedrooms, a beauty salon, cinema, cafe, bar and multi-activity room, plus landscaped gardens.

Mr Dixon said: “The new home will create at least 60 jobs and we are making a big investment in the home and its facilities, but the real emphasis will be on the quality of care. It’s the calibre of staff that make a care home somewhere that people are happy to live, so we will be handpicking a team of experienced people and supporting them with continuous training and a good career plan.

“Our other care homes West Yorkshire have become a real part of the community where families drop in for a cup of tea in our cafe, attend courses on dementia and other topics and take an active part in care planning for their relatives, and we plan to do the same with Oak Park.

“Following the same successful format as our other homes, Oak Park will be a new breed of care home, offering five-star facilities in a homely, affordable environment, giving older people the privacy and comfort they are entitled to.

“We have already had a lot of interest in Oak Park, particularly in our ‘Transfer with Ease’ scheme that helps people transfer from other homes quickly and easily and with no extra costs.

“Not all care homes are the same and we want to show people that moving into care can be a positive choice.”
