A lorry, a tanker and a car have all been involved in accident on the M62.
The eastbound carriageway, between junction 26 at Chain Bar and junction 27 at Gildersome, has been shut by police
And the westbound carriageway has also been temporarily closed between the same junctions to allow the Air Ambulance to land.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service are also at the scene assessing the safety of the tanker.
One driver is believed to be seriously injured.
Diversions are in place and drivers have been warned to expect delays for several hours.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency said: “The M62 is shut in both directions between junctions 26 and 27. This is to allow West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service to carry out an assessment on the tanker load. “A 50 metre exclusion zone has been put in place affecting the westbound carriageway as well as the eastbound carriageway where the incident happened.”
