Staff from Mirfield Free Grammar and Sixth Form have been drafted in to help a troubled school in Huddersfield.

Colne Valley Specialist Arts College went into special measures and headteacher Carol Gormley quit last week.

Now MFG has been made Colne Valley’s national support school and Maggie Dunn, a member of MFG’s senior leadership team, has been made acting headteacher.

MFG principal Lorraine Barker, right, will also be keeping an eye on Colne Valley. Mrs Barker is an accredited National Leader of Education and MFG, in Kitson Hill Road, has had two successive outstanding Ofsted reports.

A Kirklees Council spokeswoman said: “The staff at the college are working hard to deliver the best learning experiences that will result in effective student outcomes.”
