A COUPLE who met in a cinema queue have just celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Peter and Margaret Smith’s diamond wedding anniversary was last Thursday, March 22.
The couple were both born in Dewsbury but have lived at their home in Parkfield Avenue, Mirfield, for more than 40 years.
Mr Smith, known to his family by his middle name Brian, worked as a postman and ended up working at the post office in Mirfield town centre.
He said: “We love it in Mirfield. We moved here with the Post Office and I was fortunate to get the job. We are both over 80 but we still walk into Mirfield every day.”
The couple celebrated their anniversary on Saturday with their three children, June, Alan and Stephen, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr Smith said: “We are proud of what we’ve achieved because we started out with nothing and we are proud of what our children have achieved.”
