OVER 50S GROUP - The group had an outing to the Wetherby Whaler at Wakefield on Friday for lunch. It was a very good meal and everyone had a good time.Today we have one of the clubs favourite singing duo, Kim and Dave Valentine.The club is now able to welcome new members and we meet every Friday at 2pm. BOOK CLUB - The first book we will be reading is Miss Garnet’s Angel By Salley Vickers, this will be discussed in a light hearted and informal way, on Tuesday 22nd October, so there is plenty time to read it.

CtK FLOWER FESTIVAL - September 19 - 22. During the weekend at specific times the following will take place. Thursday: Flower Festival Champagne Reception, 7.30pm. Friday: Songs of Praise followed by afternoon tea, 1.30pm. Saturday: Jazz Band, 7.30pm. Sunday: Festival Eucharist followed by BBQ, 11am.

RAVENSTHORPE

COMMUNITY CENTRE - Monday and Thursday: Youth group, eight-12 years, arts, crafts, drama and games, 6pm-7.15pm, 20p. Tuesday: The Dewsburyites youth theatre group for all ages, putting on plays and musical shows, 7pm-8.45pm, £2.

FRIENDLY CLUB - Tuesday: Ravensthorpe Community Centre, Garden Street, 10am-noon.

RESIDENTS’ ACTION GROUP - The group meets every six weeks at the community centre in Garden Street to talk about concerns and how to make Ravensthorpe a better place to live. The group is looking to recruit new members and increase awareness of its work.

WOMEN FIRST - A self-help group for women over 18 who suffer from depression, low confidence or anxiety or who simply want to get involved in new activities and meet new friends. DEWSBURY AND DISTRICT RAMBLERS - Twenty seven walkers set off along the canal on Wednesday July 31 to complete the eight mile Selby Horseshoe route. Wolfgang Shoneberg was the leader. Last Saturday, 27 people set off on a 7.5 mile walk from Lower Cumberworth via Birdsedge, Denby Dale, Withen Wood and the Kirklees Way. Barbara Addy was the leader. The following day, 13 members set off from Scarcroft with walk leader Malcolm Waterworth. The nine mile walk took in Bardsey, Wyke and Shadwell. Wednesday: Evening walk with fish and chip supper, meet Wetherby Whaler, Wakefield, 6pm, names to Norman Dewhirst.

DEWSBURY AND DISTRICT THIRD AGE - Course prospectus for 2013/14 is now available in local libraries, with four new classes: Sing and play guitar for fun, Wednesdays, 4.30-6.30pm, at Croft House, Upper Hopton, Mirfield; Hatha Yoga, Wednesdays 10-11.30am at Longcauseway Church, Dewsbury.
