OVER 50S GROUP - On Friday chairman Roy Parry welcomed back Amie Rae who sang some beautiful songs and entertained us for an hour. Tea and biscuits were served and there was the raffle.Today we will be visiting the Lakeside Restaurant, Ponderosa, for lunch. 1.30 for 2pm. PROBUS - The president welcomed 41 members to an excellent talk by Malcolm Haigh on a Journalists Life. A vote of thanks was given by Ray Marshall. CHRIST THE KING - The celebrant and preacher at last Sunday’s service was the Rev Dr Chris Swift, the organist was Garth Swift. Intercessions were led by Gerry Foreman and the choir anthem was Be still for the presence of the Lord. The Bishop of Wakefield will give every church £100 to help kick start a community initiative to mark his tenth anniversary as diocesan Bishop and to celebrate the Christian Churches year of mission, HOPE 2014. Our Rural Dean Paul Maybury will be leaving in the autumn to take up a new appointment as Spirituality Co-ordinator and Bishop’s Missioner in the South East Cyprus Chaplaincy (Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf; Province of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East.

PROBUS CLUB - An intriguing story of a sculptor’s life was given by Stephen Hines last Thursday, whose latest sculpture has recently been unveiled at Dewsbury and District Hospital. Mr Hines was introduced by president Robin Chilvers and a vote of thanks was given by past president Bob Hunter. Reports were given by secretary John Jenkinson , treasurer Colin Spurr and acting registrar Les Goodall. Next meeting: Thursday July 18, John Lyte and Stuart Hartley will give an illustrated presentation entitled “Briestfield Exposed”.
