A COUNCILLOR has been given an award for his work in the pursuit of peace.

Coun John Nottingham was made an Ambassador for Peace by the Universal Peace Federation during an event at the House of Lords.

He has been working with the Universal Peace Federation for several years, while also serving as a member of Mirfield Town Council.

“It was a privilege to be given this award for services to the town council and for serving the community,” Coun Nottingham, of Huddersfield Road, Ravensthorpe, said.

The Universal Peace Federation is a global organisation that encourages different faith groups to work together and spread peace.

Its ambassadors project was launched in 2001. The awards are given to individuals who have helped to find peace between groups divided by religious, ethnic or national boundaries.

Coun Nottingham said he was given the award for his work on human rights.
