A HIGH-profile visitor is all set to make sure a Mirfield railway group stays on the right track.
Music mogul Pete Waterman, best known for Pop Idol, will be guest speaker at a special event, thanks to a friendship forged in the days of British Rail.
Co-founder of Mirfield Railway Enthusiasts Society Barry Laycock worked with Pete many years ago.
“And railways were his first love,” said Barry, who spent years as a train driver.
Barry has taken groups of Society members to Pete’s Cheshire home to view his collection of preserved locomotives and huge model railway layout.
Three charities will benefit from the event on March 12 – the Forget-Me-Not Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital and Pete Waterman’s own heritage trust in Crewe.
The meeting is at the Navigation, 7.30pm, and although 94 tickets have already been sold, there are still some up for grabs.
