A BUSINESS is having to visit the Royal Mail delivery office twice a week to pick up its own mail.

Nik Allan, whose company Check Your Staff has been having problems with postal deliveries since November, said he was making twice weekly trips to the delivery office in Dewsbury to collect mail which had not been taken to his King Street business.

The Royal Mail brought in a new system said as part of a £2bn modernisation scheme in November.

Mr Allan said: “Pretty much from the day the Royal Mail changed its process, the service has been terrible for both business and also residential customers.

“Every day the postmen and women are different so they have no idea where they are going. In no way am I blaming the posties - they are trying their best.

“I fully understand that we have had bad weather and Christmas, but that’s just an easy excuse to cover up for the fact that they have completely screwed up the post for all residents and businesses in the Mirfield area. It was bad enough before Christmas but it is getting worse, not better. We have suppliers like BT demanding payment but we can’t make it as we haven’t received our payment in the post.”

Meanwhile, Nancy Tuke, of Farrar Drive, said she also made a trip to Dewsbury delivery office to find out if there was any undelivered mail for her address, and was given a big pile.

She said: “Nobody has any answers at the delivery office. It is unacceptable. On Monday I received a letter that was posted nine days earlier in Lincoln. I ordered a parcel which was sent on December 29 which I am still waiting for.

“I subscribe to a lifestyle magazine which comes out every month. The December magazine was delivered on Tuesday and everything in it relates to what was going on before Christmas. They said this postal service wasn’t what they are paying for.”

A Royal Mail spokeswoman declined to go into detail about the reason for delays, bit apologised to customers.
